A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a random stabbing in a Tim Horton city center in Vancouver on Saturday.
The Vancouver Police Department on Monday released surveillance footage of the horrific, unprovoked attack that sent a 25-year-old Mexican tourist to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Tuesday afternoon, 27-year-old David Richard Morin was arrested near the streets of Granville and Helmcken, and he faces a single case of aggravated assault.
“We are relieved to have made an arrest so quickly in this troubling case, and hope this helps restore the sense of security that some people have lost,” said Sgt. Steve Addison. “Everyone who came forward with information deserves credit for this swift arrest.”
The 25-year-old victim, who had recently arrived in Canada, is recovering from his serious injuries.
Sgt. Addison said a number of people provided information to police after the surveillance video was released and Morin, from Downtown Eastside in Vancouver, was walking downtown.
Morin appeared in court Wednesday morning and he remains in custody.
VPD is holding a livestreamed press conference on the investigation at 12.30
