Woman dies after boat capsized in Sydney | Liverpool mayor

A woman has died after a boat with five people on board capsized on the Nepean River in western Sydney.

Emergency services were dispatched following reports that a boat had capsized after noon on Wednesday.

Fire and Rescue NSW said tinny capsized just after 6 p.m. 12.30pm after residents inadvertently walked over Penrith Weir.

Two men and two teenagers were rescued from the water and taken to Nepean Hospital for observation and treatment of minor injuries.

Police said a woman was pulled out of the water unconscious and treated by paramedics, but died shortly afterwards.

She has not yet been formally identified, but is believed to be 33 years old.

“This is a tragic end for this family on what should have been a fun day out on the water this Australia Day,” said NSW Ambulance Acting Superintendent Greg Marshall.

“This is a reminder to everyone out on the water this summer about how quickly things can turn around.”
