Looking back on this summer’s first test

Let’s go far back to the end of September last year, when the Australian women started the summer with a one-off test against India. There was a lot of excitement for the day-night match on the Gold Coast, but unfortunately the Queensland weather and some determined batting made it a rather meek affair.

But the Australians lacked their best in that match, especially with the ball. They will no doubt be much sharper at this point of the season, but if the English were to look back on that match, they would find plenty to be optimistic about.

It may not be a fair comparison, but when the women only get to play two tests in the summer (at most), that’s all we have to go!

Morning cricket friends! Women’s ash test is here, and not a moment too soon after two consecutive T20 leaches. It’s time for this series to really get started.

Australia currently lead the series 4-2 thanks to the victory in the initial T20 and the sharing of points in the two washouts, but with four points available in the test match, this is the one both teams really want to win. Plus, you know there’s the importance of playing test cricket for all of these players, which remains a frustrating rarity. These games are always special and it will not be any different.

The cast is not far away and we will follow the team selections for this one with interest. We have four big days to come, so stay tuned and keep the blog on hand for as long as it lasts.
