Marty Sheahan was fatally shot inside his home on Clarke Avenue in Warburton last night, with reports shots were heard just after 8.30pm.
It’s believed the 57-year-old council worker had recently returned from a walk when the attack occurred.
A woman, who was also at the property at the time, was physically uninjured.
The body of a second 57-year-old man was later found with a fatal gunshot wound at a toilet block at a reserve on Warburton Highway in Wesburn, about 6km west of Mr Sheahan’s home.
Victoria Police has revealed both men are believed to be known to each other and that they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the deaths.
It is believed the second man was a disgruntled former colleague of Mr Sheahan.
Mr Sheahan had worked for Yarra Ranges Council for six years and was a part of the Infrastructure Services department.
The council has released a statement today saying it is “deeply saddened by the news that one of (its) dedicated staff members” had passed away.
“We know the events of last evening will be deeply impacting the family and friends of the men who passed away and we extend our deepest sympathy to family and friends, and the broader Warburton community,” a council spokesperson said.
