The last few years have made many of us much more comfortable spending lots of time at home – perhaps a little too comfortable – but at times also desperate to get out and spend some time outside the perimeter of our homes.
This is where the local pub can come in and provide the good balance of being a place where you can relax and feel comfortable with either your friends or the whole family, with something to keep everyone entertained but no one needs to lift a finger or clean up.
That was the vision behind Woden’s newest room, The Alby – a 1,000 m2 gastropub with several bars and restaurants, a large beer garden and a games cellar. The Alby, located on the ground floor of the DOMA Group’s Alexander and Albemarle (or A&A) buildings, burst onto the dining scene in late 2021, bringing food, drinks, fun, games with a relaxed, local atmosphere. Think of it as your home away from home, albeit with much better food, beverages, entertainment and staff to take care of you.
Open Wednesday to Sunday from kl. 11 a.m. to late. The all-day menu has something that keeps everyone happy, from the salmon crudo or burrata dish to slices or sausage rolls.
Then there are salads, pizzas, plus entrees like burgers, parmigiana, market fish or the butcher’s selection of premium meats. Down in the basement, the menu is a lighter selection of snacks, tacos, nachos and pizzas.
Speaking of the basement, down there you will find a lot of fun with pinball, pool tables and Australia’s first Duckpin Bowling – a 10-legged game popular throughout Canada and the US that uses smaller balls without finger holes and is best enjoyed with a drink in hand.
The sleek yet relaxed space is the creation of the owners’ DOMA developments and the leading talents of Capezio Copeland, and it’s just as comfortable whether you’re taking the family for a meal, going to lunch with your colleagues or having evening drinks with the girls.
And there’s a lot more planned for The Alby in the coming months – keep your eyes peeled for longer and a new breakfast menu plus plenty of events.
If you’ve eager to catch the Superbowl, Alby’s first big event of the year will see the game on the five big screens in the basement.
When: Open Wednesday to Sunday at 11 a.m. to late.
