The lunar New Year celebration begins on February 1, and the festivities continue for 16 days. That means there is plenty of time to celebrate over food at home and in restaurants.

Kirby Ip is a Vancouver-based food blogger who grew up celebrating the lunar new year in a household in Hong Kong.
“In my household, for typical Lunar New Year family dinners, seafood is always a big part of the meal,” she says. “There are always abalone, steamed fish, lobster or even steamed scallops.”
Festivities at this time of year are popular with many Asian cultures.
“ONE [Lunar New Year] dish that is common in Malaysia or Singapore is Prosperity Toss, ”says Justin Cheng, chef and owner of Potluck Hawker Eatery. “It’s basically a dish with a lot of shredded vegetables, and it has some different types of textures. You could get some crispy wonton chips or nuts and usually some raw fish.
