AFC Championship Match: Cincinnati Bengals v Kansas City Chiefs – Live! | Sport

Preamble

So, slow day to sports, right?

A lot happens over a 24-hour period or so, but luckily we at Guardian have you covered. I look forward to covering today’s AFC Championship game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs, where we get to see two of the league’s best quarterbacks fight for the right to perform in this year’s Super Bowl.

This is probably not the matchup that most people had expected. Although it almost felt like a lock that Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs would reach it at least that far – even if they needed a miracle field goal and a bit of coin play to put the Buffalo Bills away – but the Bengals? Cincinnati Bengals?

On their way into the off-season, the Bengals had last won a playoff match back in 1991. In the years since, their name became virtually synonymous with failure and disappointment. But with the design of the quarterback, Joe Burrow has marked the official end of the Cincinnati Bungle era. They have now beaten the Las Vegas Raiders at home and, more impressively, the top-seeded Tennessee Titans away in last weekend’s exciting NFL division round.

Despite their success, they come into this game as clear underdogs. Not only must the Bengals win their second game in a row, but they must also do so against a Chiefs team that has appeared in the last two Super Bowls and has won one. It’s hard to imagine the Bengals will be able to push the Chiefs to the brink, as the Bills did during their 42-36 overtime win last Sunday (one of the biggest NFL playoff games you’ll likely see).

But after all that we witnessed last weekend, who knows? We could be in for a blowout, just like the many we witnessed at Super Wild Card Weekend. We could be in a competitive loss between two offensive powerhouses. Maybe, just maybe, we might see the improbability: the Bengals in the big game.

Honestly, it feels like this is going to be entertaining regardless of the end result. While we keep track of today’s game actions, feel free to email us your NFL-related thoughts, comments, and questions either via email (to hunter.felt.freelance@theguardian.com) or on Twitter (@HunterFelt, my home away from home). It’s the AFC Championship match between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Opening kick is scheduled for at. 15:00 EST / 20: 00 GMT, but we will return before then with various news.
