The character-rich, 1896-built Victorian tattoo artist Kat Von D, who was picked up in 2016, is back on the open market this winter. The dramatic mansion in red brick is priced at $ 15 million. It has been carefully restored in keeping with the design sensitivity of its time and should be seen even if you are not in the market for a thoroughbred mansion of the fin-de-siècle type.

Built for California mover Isaac Newton Van Nuys, the three-story house contains thirteen bedrooms and ten bathrooms in its 12,565 sq. Ft. ft. It has a semi-enclosed covered porch with stone pillars and columns, a tower, and a gated front hallway and front entrance with carved arched double doors and stained glass side lights.

As it has been restored, the interior begins with a foyer that looks a lot like it would have looked a century ago, with ample dark wood, an alcove fireplace and a curved staircase. Some of the more striking spaces include the living room, which boasts gilded milled friezes, oak parquet and a ceiling fresco, and the library / office with its marble fireplace, built-in bookshelves and ornate cornices. The Gothic cuisine is worth the entrance fee in itself.

The plot measures 0.62 acres and is largely occupied by a garden designed in a romantic style – although a pool currently filled with magenta water must not be forgotten as a primary outdoor recreation.
