M1 closed at Hemel Hempstead due to multi-vehicle crash involving bus and lorry – recap

A multi-vehicle crash closed the M1 in both directions between Junction 9 for Hemel Hempsted and Junction 8 for Redbourn on Sunday (January 30) morning.

According to traffic monitoring website Inrix, a bus and a lorry were involved in the accident on the northbound carriageway.

All emergency services, including traffic officers, were in attendance at the incident.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area, and police put diversion routes in place following long delays.

Hertfordshire Police tweeted: “# M1 closed: The motorway is currently closed in both directions between # J8 for #Hemel and # J9 for #Dunstable following a collision involving several vehicles.

“Emergency services are at the scene and we’re asking motorists to please avoid the area. Thank you.”
