Ottawa police report no cases of violence or injuries

THUNDER BAY, OTTAWA ~~~~~~ January 29, 2022 (LSNews) Ia media announcement issued at. At 7:55 a.m. Saturday night, Ottawa police said the crowds in the center of town have dispersed after today’s demonstration, but traffic problems continue and a large police presence is still in place.

Cases of violence or injuries have not been reported.

Many streets in the city center are closed or impassable to vehicles.

Do not travel to the center of the city center. For residents and businesses in the core, the police are working to mitigate the effects of the demonstration, such as gridlock and parked vehicles and thank the residents for their patience.

Police are continuing to work to ensure that emergency lanes are maintained. Vehicles parked in areas deemed necessary for public safety reasons will be towed.

During the day, police and traffic officers were forced to close several interprovincial bridges and several 417 exits to Ottawa. These traffic problems continue on Sunday.

Interprovincial bridges: The Portage and Alexandra bridges are closed. The Champlain Bridge is open and the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge has lane reductions. The Chaudiere Bridge is only open to health care and essential workers. Be prepared to show identification. If you are not one of them, do not use this bridge.

We continue to ask protesters to respect national symbols such as the National War Memorial or the Terry Fox statue. City crews and police took steps to protect these areas, such as towing vehicles and removing signs and equipment, but they should be respected at all times.

There will continue to be a large presence of police and to ensure public safety this evening and Sunday.

Day one of the Freedom Convoy in Ottawa did not live up to Hadjus or Trudeau’s predictions. Trudeau has said Canadians are not represented by this “very worrying, small but very loud minority of Canadians who are turning against science, government, society, mandates and public health councils.”

Prime Minister Trudeau says the “small, marginalized minority” on their way to Ottawa “have unacceptable views” and undermine Canada’s rights, freedoms and values.
