Altona North’s Sue Kim Lim was among more than 16,000 people across the country who officially became Australian nationals on 26 January.

Originally born in Malaysia, Sue has spent the last 11 years in Australia after first coming here to study.

She said applying for citizenship was something she had wanted to do for a long time now.

“It’s something I suppose I’d been planning to do for a while now. At one point I already knew I wanted to apply for citizenship because Australia is the place I want to live in permanently and it’s mine. home now.”

Although Sue has only lived in Hobsons Bay for a short time, she said she has really come to love the community and all it has to offer.

“Both [my] children were born in this home, so I really call Hobsons Bay my home, ”she said.

“It’s an area I’m familiar with, I feel a sense of belonging here.”

As for Australia, it’s the culture and the people she loves the most.

“I feel like I identify more with the culture here now that I’ve lived here for a number of years,” Sue said.

“It’s the lifestyle I love. And I feel that Australian people are very friendly, very compassionate, they are very generous and polite.”

“It’s very easy to love Australian people and the culture here.”
