Man shot by police in Meadow Heights

A man was shot dead by police after an incident in Meadow Heights on Saturday.

Police were carrying out a search warrant at a residential address on Mitchell Crescent when they were allegedly confronted by a resident of the home and threatened with a hammer just before 8.30am, a Victoria Police statement read.

A police weapon was fired and the man was beaten in the lower body.

He sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was rushed to the hospital.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The search was executed in connection with an investigation into an armed robbery at a gas station in Coolaroo on January 26.

According to the standard protocol following a police shooting, detectives from the armed crime force will investigate the incident under the supervision of the Professional Standards Command.
