Multiple power cuts are still being reported across the North East, according to Northern Powergrid’s power cut map.

At present, it is only providing estimates for when power will be restored In some areas – such as NE20, where it hopes to restore power by 6pm tomorrow, January 31.
In this postcode, where 50 homes are affected, it says “Our team are working hard to restore your power as quickly as possible,”

In South Shields, where less than 10 homes have no electricity, Northern Powergrid estimates supllies will resume by 7am on Monday morning.

In other postcodes – such as NE9 where 50 permises are without power – Northern Powergrid is telling customers it is “currently reviewing how long it will take to get the power back on”.

Northern Powergrid said that around 80,000 customers – almost all in Northumberland and Durham County – had been affected by power cuts.

Director Paul Glendinning said: “Given what we now know, we expect that around 4,000 customers will still be off supply as we go into tomorrow (Monday).

“We have confirmed that there are around 200 damage points on the low voltage network that will reconnect only a small number of customers for each repair.”
